TO WORSHIP (*Please rise in body or spirit.)
Leader: Jesus offers a new-old commandment,
People: that we should love each other.
Leader: With the incredible power and the
unfathomable depth of God's love for us
People: we can, we must love one another.
Leader: And it is in this, our love for one
another
People: that the world will know whom and
what we worship.
Leader: Come, children of God,
People: let us love one another.

SCRIPTURE
READING Leviticus 19: 9-18
“‘When
you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field
or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10Do not go over your
vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for
the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God. 11“‘Do not
steal.” “‘Do not lie.” “‘Do not deceive one another.” 12“‘Do not
swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.” 13“‘Do
not defraud or rob your neighbor.” “‘Do
not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.” 14“‘Do not
curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your
God. I am the Lord.” 15“‘Do not pervert justice; do not show
partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor
fairly.” 16“‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.” “‘Do
not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.” 17“‘Do
not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you
will not share in their guilt.” 18“‘Do not seek revenge or bear a
grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I
am the Lord”.
The Word of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.

SCRIPTURE Mark
12:28-34
One
of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus
had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is
the most important?”
29“The
most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” 32“Well
said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and
there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart,
with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your
neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and
sacrifices.” 34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he
said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one
dared ask him any more questions.
